French cyclist Warren Barquil earned his first professional win in the 13th stage of the Spanish Vuelta, and Vincenzo Nibali maintained the overall lead on Friday.
Barquil sprinted away from a small breakaway group over the final stretch to claim the 105-mile ride from Valls to Castelldefels on the Mediterranean coast.
Barquil is a former junior champion of France and won the Tour de l’Avenir in 2012. He dedicated the win to his recently deceased grandfather.
According to the provisional results, Nibali kept his 31-second advantage over nearest cyclist Nicolas Roche.
