Following the official announcement of the Union Cycliste Internationale regarding Stefano Agostini’s violation of the antidoping policy on August 21, 2013, Brixia Sport announced that, in accordance with the sanctions provided by the internal health regulation and the internal disciplinary code, Agostini’s contract has been terminated.
The decision to terminate Agostini’s contract was made by Brixia Sport on August 23 when Agostini informed the team of his use of a cream containing a prohibited active principle on the WADA list, without prescriptions from the team’s medical staff. This behaviour violates current antidoping rules and goes against the rules provided by the team’s medical staff during the opening meeting of the season. The Italian Cycling Federation has been informed of the termination.
“The explanation provided to us by Agostini demonstrated complete carelessness, something unacceptable from a professional rider,” said Roberto Amadio, team manager of Cannondale Pro Cycling. “Our antidoping and prevention policy is clear. Violation of that policy is not permitted and is dealt with firmly.”
