After a solid showing at Clif Bar CrossVegas, and a solo win at day 1 of the the Trek Cyclocross Collective Cup, Elle Anderson (Cal Giant-Specialized) is showing that she is in form and ready for the cross season. Her 2013 road season with Vanderkitten saw her racing at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, Tulsa Tough, and San Rafael Twilight Crit, and seems to have prepared her well for the 2013 cross campaign. Anderson raced for Ladies First Racing before signing with Cal Giant-Specialized, to race alongside veteran Meredith Miller.
Gabby Durrin (Rapha-Focus) was the fastest off the line in the women’s event, and a lead group quickly established itself within the first lap. Riders in the group included Durrin, Nicole Duke (Marin-Spy), Caroline Mani (Raleigh-Clement), Crystal Anthony (Optum p/b Kelly Benefits), and Meredith Miller and Elle Anderson (Cal-Giant-Specialized). By the third lap though, Anderson pulled away from the group to take the solo lead.
With a comfortable lead built, Maghalie Rochette (Cyclocrossworld.com), took up the chase, with Anderson’s teammate, Miller, sitting on her wheel patiently. With Rochette left to do all the work, it was a matter of time until Miller would pounce to take second, or launch to take the lead if Anderson was caught. Going into the final lap, Miller saw her opportunity as Rochette was tiring, and left her behind. Anderson continued to lead Miller, and it was Mani who left Durrin and Anthony behind to try and catch the leaders. Anderson was able to easily roll through to take her second win in two days, with Miller finishing 5 seconds back, and Mani another 4 seconds later. Durrin and Anthony rounded out the top five, while Rochette had to settle for 6th after all of her hard work chasing down the leader.
