USA Cycling and BTB TV are excited to announce a three-year partnership to bring coverage of the 2013-14 USA Cycling Professional Cyclo-cross Calendar (Pro CX) to viewers across the country and the world.
BTB TV is the creation of 2012 elite national cyclo-cross champion Jeremy Powers, who first offered fans an inside look at the life of a professional ‘cross racer with his Behind the Barriers online video series. Since 2010, the Team Rapha-FOCUS rider and his co-producer, Sam Smith, have brought viewers along as Powers competed in top domestic and international races, earning more than a million views and becoming a popular part of American cyclo-cross culture. This season, Behind the Barriers has grown to become BTB TV, featuring several shows a week that will offer highlights, commentary and features on all facets of cyclo-cross racing.
With this partnership, USA Cycling will help support BTB TV as it brings you coverage of the top cyclo-cross races in the U.S., including each of the six Pro CX events with a UCI C1 ranking, and culminating with the 2014 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships in January in Boulder, Colo. The partnership also builds on USA Cycling’s investment in domestic cyclo-cross which already includes a $40,000 prize purse awarded to the top 20 men and women in the Pro CX standings as was announced earlier this year.
“We’re proud to be partnering with Jeremy, Sam and the rest of the BTB TV team in their effort to bring ‘cross coverage to more and more people in the U.S., as well as showcase our top events to a global audience,” said Rob Borland, USA Cycling’s chief marketing offer. “Cyclo-cross is on fire in the U.S. and it’s great to be at the heart of this explosive growth. We saw a 15% jump in racer days in 2012, making ‘cross the fastest growing discipline. As we saw, this will help attract some of the best riders in the world as Sven Nys came and won at Clif® Bar CrossVegas. USA Cycling is excited to partner with BTB TV as they take cyclo-cross coverage to a whole new level, attracting new riders and fans to the sport.”
USA Cycling’s Professional Cyclo-cross Calendar features the premier cyclo-cross events in America and uses an overall ranking system to determine the best individual male and female ‘cross racers over the course of the season. New this year, the top 20 men and women will earn a slice of a $40,000 prize purse, with equal payouts for both genders. The six C1 events on the Pro CX Calendar are:
- Sept. 18 – Clif® Bar CrossVegas, Las Vegas, Nev.
- Oct. 5 – Providence Cyclo-cross Festival, Providence, R.I.
- Nov. 2 – Cincy3 Lionhearts International, Mason, Ohio
- Nov. 9 – Sophisticated Living Derby City Cup, Louisville, Ky.
- Nov. 17- Jingle Cross Rock, Iowa City, Iowa
- Dec. 7 – Deschutes Brewery Cup, Bend, Ore.
