Team USA wrapped up the2013/14 UCI Track World Cup season with a silver medal in the women’s team pursuit in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The squad of Cari Higgins (Boulder, Colo./UnitedHealthcare), Lauren Tamayo (Asheville, N.C./UnitedHealthcare), Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif.) and Jade Wilcoxson (Talent, Ore./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) earned second place in Friday night’s final that was won by the team from Canada. The silver-medal performance moved the U.S. from fourth place to third place in the final World Cup standings with 706 total points. Canada placed first in the standings with 840 points, while Australia took second with 720.
Valente also competed in the women’s scratch race on Friday where she finished in eighth place. Hong Kong’s Xiao Juan Diao took the gold medal ahead of Colombia’s Jannie Salcedo and Russia’s Evgeniya Romanyuta. Valente finishes the world cup season ranked 15th in the scratch race standings.
On the men’s side, Jacob Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) placed 14th in the omnium held Saturday andSunday, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the scratch race. Tirian McManus of Australia placed first with 26 points, while Belgium’s Jasper De Buyst took the silver medal and Thomas Boudat of France claimed the bronze. Duehring ends the World Cup season 12th in the overall standings.
Next up for the U.S. team are the 2014 UCI Track World Championships to be held February 26-March 2 in Cali, Colombia.
