Happy Hour Timepieces – Lightweight Review

HH-042Just because cyclocross season is over, doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a cold beverage after a ride or a race. Instead of carrying a bottle opener on your keys like you did in college, or carrying another tool in your already stuffed tool kit, why not just wear a watch?

The folks at Happy Hour Timepieces sent over one of their Lightweights, the flagship of their watch line. The Lightweight is a simple and classic watch. No chronographs, dates, or moon cycles, just the time. It’s all you really need anyway. You can get it in a brushed silver case with a green or black face, or the stealthy all black. The all black comes with a black leather band, while the brushed cases come with leather backed canvas bands. It has a 42mm face, which seems to be just right in size without being too flashy, and the large 5 on the face reminds you it’s five o’clock somewhere.

HHR_IshOpen_HiResWhat makes this watch really special is the bottle opener built into the strap buckle. Just grip the bottle by the neck and put the cap into the buckle. With your thumb braced against the flat part of the buckle, twist your wrist away from the bottle while pulling the bottle in the opposite direction, and you should be on your way to enjoying your beverage. The buckle is a little larger than a normal buckle, but not large enough to noticeably get in the way of day to day life.

HH-033 At $149.99 for the all black with the leather band, or $124.99 for the canvas band watches, you are getting a well made watch for the price. The stainless steel case and Japanese movement should be maintenance free for years. When the battery calls time on you, a jeweler or watch shop can easily replace it for you. All Happy Hour timepieces come with a one year warranty on materials and workmanship. If something breaks on your watch, just let Happy Hour know, and they will get you taken care of.
