Previously, we told you about Sportique’s products for before and during your ride, after your work out, and shaving products. This final review will cover body balm and butters, along with more lip care products. As we have done before, let’s start by telling you about the products, and then get to the reviews.
The ProductsÂ
Like the shaving products, it pays to take care of your skin, even when you are not out being active, especially during the winter when it is cold and dry. It’s not just about keeping it moisturized though, you also want a product that keeps your skin soft, supple, and flexible. Depending on what you prefer, Sportique has a product for you.
The Moisturizing Body Balm uses all natural ingredients to smooth and calm your skin, while hydrating and regenerating. Ingredients like marine algae, chamomile, and aloe vera help to hydrate your skin to keep it soft and flexible. Soothing botanicals like comphrey, yarrow, and calendula are blended with natural jojoba and almond oils to create a light, non-greasy cream. What you won’t find is petroleum, animal biproducts, colors, harsh chemicals, or synthetic preservatives. If you have sensitive skin, the Moisturizing Body Balm is for you. Apply it generously after a shower, or any time your body feel dry.
If you prefer something a little thicker, Body Butter would be an option. Shea butter, aloe vera, meadowfoam, and macadamia oils help to moisturize and replenish your skin. It is rich and creamy, and absorbs into the skin easily. It not only hydrates your skin, but also forms a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss. It is available in bamboo, vanilla, pina colada, and mango.
When you need something more, there is the 100% Shea Butter or Bio Shea Butter with Lavender. The 100% Shea Butter is just what is says, 100% shea butter. Shea comes from a small fruit that resembles an avocado. The inner kernel is what the butter is made from. Shea butter is a good source of unsaponifiable natural lipids that help keep your skin soft, smooth, and flexible. While it nourishes your skin, it also helps to combat the signs of aging. The Bio Shea Butter with Lavender adds the relaxing lavender essential oil.
Once you are done taking care of your skin, it is time to look to your lips. Sportique has a few different products to look after them.
If it is day to day lip balm you are looking for, the Honey or Peach Lip Balms would be the first step. They use shea butter, jojoba oil, and bee’s wax, mixed with all natural and botanical ingredients. Honey and Peach essential oils are added to differentiate between the “flavors.” The Lip Balms are intended to protect your lips from getting chapped and cracked.
To help repair and protect your lips, the Heaven & Earth Lip Balm would be your choice. Sportique leaves out the bee’s wax on this one to give it a lighter feel. All natural botanicals and vitamin C and E create a lip balm that helps to regenerate your lips, along with protecting them all year long.
When you are ready for a night out on the town, the Lip Gloss in Rise & Shine provides a slight tint of color while also repairing and protecting your lips. Natural botanical butters provide a little extra shine and protection, while natural minerals and botanical sourced pigments add a slight rose tint. Natural botanical ingredients moisturize and repair your lips and spearmint and peppermint oils sooth.

The Reviews
Since I am not a aficionado on all things body balm and butter related, I enlisted the help of my lovely assistant Krista, who also provided feedback on other Sportique products that we have reviewed. She was a great help and provided insight that I would have been clueless about.
One of the products that she liked the most, and has been using on a daily basis since I gave her the assignment, was the Moisturizing Body Balm. It’s thin consistency went on well, and soaked in fast. She also liked that it didn’t leave a film on her skin, so it became something she used all day long. Whether it was after a shower or if her skin felt a little dry, she enjoyed it any time. The only drawback for her was the smell. She found it to smell like other moisturizers out there that are fragrance free. Depending on how it would mix with the rest of the ingredients, she said she would welcome spearmint or peppermint essential oils to give it a minty smell. The cooling and soothing properties of the mint essential oils could also lend a nice touch to dry and irritated skin. Overall though, it was one of her favorite products of this round of reviews.
The 100% Shea Butter and Bio Shea Butter with Lavender worked well after evening showers. The shea butter seemed to be a bit crumbly when scooping some out to apply. When applying to her skin though, it smoothed out quickly. It didn’t soak in as quickly as the Moisturizing Body Balm, as it is a thicker consistency. The 100% Shea Butter didn’t have much of a smell to it, but the lavender scented product was relaxing.
The Bamboo Body Butter was another favorite, as she has a preference to body butters over shea butter. The bamboo might not have been her first choice, with it’s subtle grassy and floral smell, but others like the mango or vanilla would do nicely. It is thicker than the Moisturizing Body Balm, and soaks in slower, but hydrates more. Again, she found it best to use after showers. Â
When it came to her lips, the Heaven On Earth Lip Balm was her favorite of the three products. It was a little thinner than the Honey or Peach Lip Balms, but hydrated the best out of the three. It went on smooth, and seemed to last a long time.Â
For the Honey and Peach Lip Balms, we each took one to try. Previously, I had used another popular bee’s wax based product out there, so I grabbed the honey. We both found that it worked well. Being a little thicker, it stayed on well, and helped to protect our lips on multiple mile walks with the pups in the cold. For hydrating and repairing though, the Heaven On Earth Lip Balm would be the better choice. Think of the Heaven On Earth Lip Balm as your base layer and the Honey and Peach Lip Balms as your winter cycling jacket to protect you from the cold and wind.
The Lip Gloss in Rise & Shine threw Krista off at first. She initially thought it was going to be more of a traditional lip gloss, when it is more of a tinted lip balm. It has more of a waxy consistency of the Honey and Peach Lip Balms. The rose tint it added to her lips was subtle, along with a little bit of extra gloss. It did seem to moisturize her lips too, but for the times she wants lip gloss, it probably wouldn’t be her first choice. If you are looking for something subtle that also has hydrating properties, it could be a good choice.
