Today, Diamondback Bicycles will launch its new Time Trial / Triathlon bike, the Serios, at the world championships of triathlon in Kona HI.
In January 2014 Diamondback Bicycles partnered with its first pro UCI road team, Team Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies. This Fall, they partnered up with track star Nelson “The Cheetah” Vails to create its first competitive track bike, the Vails.
The launch of the Serios rounds out Diamondback’s complete line of road bicycles and furthers the brands’ commitment to competitive road cycling and triathlon.
When the Serios was conceived, conventional thought was that to create the fastest, most aerodynamic designs, thinner is always better. Once development and wind tunnel testing began it was discovered that that theory did not always hold true. The team began testing numerous shape options for the fork, head tube, down tube, seat tube, chain and seat stays. After testing the aerodynamic properties of each individual piece, it was discovered that adding size to some of the shapes, in the correct location, led to a significant impact on the performance of the Serios in the wind tunnel. The data from the wind tunnel proves that the Serios TT/Tri bike at 15 degrees yaw, which is similar to the winds felt during the Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI, is up to 33% faster than the competition.
The Serios is offered in three complete models ranging from MAP $3,000 – $8,000 and as a frameset (fork, headset, brakes, HED Corsair handlebar, stem and seatpost) is MAP $4,000. The top of the line Serios AF model is spec’d with a Shimano Dura-Ace complete drivetrain, HED Jet 6 plus front, HED Jet 9 Plus rear wheels HED Corsair handlebar and HED Corsair integrated brake levers. MAP $8,000. The entry-level Serios S model uses the same great frame but with non-integrated stem/bar combo and lower end wheels at MAP $3000, truly a Superbike at a super price.
