Big Year Ahead for Sommerville Sports

For Sommerville Sports, 2015 is going to be a busy year. Besides running a clothing brand in the US, they have expanded to an Australian distributor, are revamping their clothing line, continuing to expand their shoe line, and have signed on as the US distributor for Colossi.

If you didn’t know,  KOM+(2)Sommerville Sports officially launched their brand in 2012, and has steadily grown the business from their Brooklyn office.  Founded by David Sommerville and Jed Kornbluh, the company prides themselves on making functional clothing that cyclists want. On top of it, they definitely have a sense of humor, as you can see with products like the King of the Muffin vest.

The brand recently announced a deal with Melbourne-based distributor C4U Sport to handle distribution of their products in Australia. The full cycling and triathlon lines will be available, along with select footwear and retail products.

“We’re very excited to bring our products to the consumer-direct and retailer markets in Australia,” said Jed Kornbluh, Sommerville Sports co-founder. “Our online business in Australia has been growing significantly in the past six months and we’re very confident that Dennis’ operation will help us continue to thrive there.”

As in the US, retailer-friendly pricing and low minimums per item will be available. Consumers and retailers can reach Sommerville Sports Australia via aus@sommervillesports.com.

With three seasons in, it was time to make some updates to their product line. Through feedback from teams, testers, and riding in the gear themselves, Sommerville Sports found some areas they wanted to improve. They have already started to roll out a new bib pattern and a new jersey, and are planning to have three new bib/jersey combinations, along with some new outerwear by Interbike this September. We’ll have more on the redesign later this year.

Last year, Sommerville Sports launched their shoe line, with three leather, lace up models. The Muzzin and Tiorati are focused on road, while the Shredder doubles as a commuter and off-road shoe. All three are desgiend to look like vintage cycling shoes, yet Sommerville Sports gave them modern touches, like a carbon fiber sole with grip pads and three hole drilling. The Tiorati Lace Up also features a 3M Scotchlite reflective lining, which makes the shoe completely reflective through the pin hole perforation of the upper.

Tiorati+Dial+(32) Tiorati+Dial+(3)For 2015, they recently announced a dial version of the Tiorati, which uses a single ATOP dial closure. The white leather upper has a less perforated look than the lace up, but still sports a full carbon sole with a three bolt drilling. Whole sizes are available from 38-47, and are expected to be available this May. You can pre-order them now on the Sommerville Sports webstore, and take advantage of a 15% discount on any of their shoes. The sale is only for a limited time though, so don’t wait.

Colossi MaverickFinally, Sommerville and Kornbluh have reached a agreement to become the US distributor of Colassi frames. The Dutch brand builds steel and aluminum road, track, and cyclocross frames. Colassi traces it’s roots to Jan Kole, a former pro cyclist turned frame builder. Stock, semi-custom, and full custom options are available, with a lead time of only six weeks for the full custom options.
