SRAM and Zipp are proud to announce a new partnership with Team Wiggins for the 2015 cycling season. Led by 2012 Tour de France winner, Sir Bradley Wiggins, the UCI Continental Team is set to challenge all of the top UK races, including the Tour of Britain and select track events. Each of these races will prepare the riders to achieve the team’s primary aim, the Team Pursuit at the 2016 Rio Games.
“Partnering with Team Wiggins is a great way to associate young and upcoming riders with cutting edge SRAM drivetrain components and Zipp wheels,” said SRAM CEO Stan Day. “Not to mention having Sir Bradley Wiggins, who has already done so much for the sport in Great Britain and Europe, riding on SRAM and Zipp is a tremendous honor.“
Equipped with SRAM RED 22 drivetrains, Team Wiggins has the tools it needs to excel on the race course. “I’m really happy to welcome SRAM aboard the team. Their componentry has been proven at the highest level and they have great innovative new products in store,” Sir Bradley said.
Team Wiggins will also make use of Zipp’s purpose-built line of carbon wheels including the climbing-specific 202 Tubular; as well as the 303, 404 and 808 Firecrest wheelsets. For time trials, the team will make use of the 808 Firecrest and Super-9 Disc. Wiggins went on to say, “Zipp wheels defined the speed standard in the peloton. The team and I are really pleased to partner with this technology leader.”
Commenting on the partnership, Zipp Director of Advanced Development Michael Hall said, “The name Wiggins is synonymous with dedication, passion and innovation. We strive every day to use those same qualities to drive our design of the world’s fastest and most technically advanced carbon racing wheels. So, partnering with team Wiggins makes perfect sense for us. We’re proud to collaborate with Sir Bradley Wiggins and this great new development team in 2015.”
