Rapha takes their first foray into eyewear today with the introduction of their Rapha Classic Sunglasses.
The sunglasses, developed in partnership with renowned Italian eyewear makers, deliver the highest optical performance and finest quality paired with Rapha’s distinctive design. There are three available frame color options, each with a specific color Carl Zeiss lens, that offer performance for all seasons. The glasses are priced at £195 / $295.
“I have a strong affinity to Dieter Ram’s ideals of ‘Form Follows Function’, and practice this with every use case for which I design.” Says Miles Gibbons, Rapha Hard Goods Designer & Developer. “However, this doesn’t mean I leave style behind or include it only as an afterthought. For me a product must work flawlessly and give the user a special feeling even when simply picking it up to look at it. This is best achieved when the form enhances the product’s use rather than dictating it. With the Rapha Classic Glasses, I believe we have created a timeless style with a sense of speed on the bike and the looks to be worn easily off the bike.”
Rapha Classic Glasses are easy-to-wear modern classics that recall cycling’s style icons yet match the contemporary style and quality of today’s best carbon and titanium road bikes. The beautiful acetate frames, handmade by Mazzucchelli, have exceptional hand feel wear softly on the face. A sophisticated option to the conspicuous, often ostentatious, injection molded eyewear styles, Rapha Classic Glasses deliver refined performance with cues from the golden age of cycling.
Rapha Classic Glasses will be available beginning July 14, 2015 at rapha.cc and in all Rapha Cycle Club stores worldwide.
In typical Rapha fashion, the style doesn’t stop with the product. The cases for the glasses come from Giorgo Fedon & Figli, a small, artisanal leather company dedicated to the production of eyeglass cases. The retail box is black tin with a cork insert, leather hinges and a velvet flock lined inner.
