GT Bicycles, a brand rich in cycling history, has presented the legendary Hans Rey with frame #1 of 100 limited-edition 25th Anniversary Zaskar Carbon frames, during his autograph session at Interbike.
The frame, one of only 100 special-edition frames produced, is in celebration of the Zaskar’s 25th Anniversary. The limited-edition 25th Anniversary Zaskar features:
- Commemorative color and graphics package
- Custom, limited-edition Zaskar head badge and downtube treatment
- All-new progressive geometry carbon frame
- Modernized Triple Triangle design
“Hans has had a long-standing tenure as a GT-sponsored athlete and an illustrious career while riding the Zaskar,” said Tim Inall, General Manager of GT Bicycles. “We couldn’t think of a better way to honor all that Hans has done for the sport, than to present him with one of these incredible bicycles.”
Since its introduction in 1991, the GT Zaskar has cemented its legendary status by being the only bike to have won World Cups in downhill, cross country, slalom and trials. The 2016 Zaskar Carbon is a culmination of those 25 years of victories, and has been designed as a modern day ripper that is light enough for race day and strong enough for every day.
Featuring GT’s classic Triple Triangle design, the Zaskar Carbon meets the performance and ride qualities of modern day carbon. Progressive geometry, with slacker head angle and longer wheelbase, gives the rider confidence and control to tackle more challenging terrain and 27.5” wheels provide a perfect blend of aggressive handling, rollover and acceleration.
Hans, a legend in mountain bike trials and freeriding, has ridden exclusively on GT bikes since 1987. He was one of the 1st athletes to have ridden the Zaskar, which became synonymous with his name. In 1999, he was inducted to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Over the years, Hans has won a large number of bike trials riding championships, including German, Swiss and USA National Champions, NORBA World Champ, Winner of the UCI World Champs, and Bike Trial Union Vice World Champ, Bronze Medal MTB Slalom Worlds, and X Games Silver Medal winner in the Trials in 1995 when the X Games were known as the ESPN Extreme Games. Hans retired from competition in 1997 and is now on a constant adventure exploring the world using his mountain bike talents.
