Tetra Bike Launch Bicycle Maintenance Products

tetrabike_1FTI, the parent company of the Tetra line of lubricants and cleaners, is launching their new line of bicycle specific products. Tetra Bike might be a new name to cyclists, but FTI has a history in the marine, industrial, and gun industries under the Tetra name.

Initially, the brand is bringing their Tetra Bike Lubricant and “Green” Cleaner Degreaser pre-treatment products to the market, with more to follow. The Lubricant uses their fluoropolymer lubricant technology, which is based on established aerospace industry products. It is a synthetic oil formula that is said to work well in anything from sand and mud to humidity and extreme cold, not to mention the nice sunny days too.

Tetra Bike describes how it works by saying “specially-treated submicronic, spherical fluoropolymer particles embed in the substrate of metal surfaces, creating a ball bearing-smooth surface that handles extreme pressure and load bearing, in addition to its many other performance featurs.” In plain English, the lube makes your chain run smooth and efficiently, while also protecting it, helping reduce wear and debris build up, and making clean up easier too.

The Tetra Bike Cleaner Degreaser is a water-based product that can be used to take off road grime and removed any lubricant and solvent residue. It also has and additive to help prevent flash rust, something that comes in handy when using power washers. Being a water-based formula, once you rinse and wipe down the parts, there should be nearly no residue left. While it is meant to be used on your drive train, it is an environmentally-safe solvent that is generally harmless to non-metal parts and finishes, like rubber, polymers, and composites. It is easy on the skin too, which is nice if you spend a lot of time cleaning your bike, and don’t want to wear gloves. The smell is said to be mild and pleasant as well.

The Tetra Bike Lube comes in a 2.5ml bottle for $7.99. The Cleaner Degreaser comes in a 120ml spray bottle, also at $7.99. The two products are also available in the Pro Kit, which comes with their Tough Brush for $24.99. The brush itself retails at $14.99.

Tetra Bike has more planned for the future to become a total bike care brand. A greasing syringe and a sponge/cloth/brush combo is also in the works.

We’ve requested samples, so check back later for a future review.
