All-new 3T Revo makes riding aerobars easier, safer, more enjoyable

3T launched an all new aerobar today called the Revo. The Revo breaks entirely with aerobar tradition by attaching the basebar wing to the front of the grips instead of the back, a change that they say increases rider safety and aerodynamics.

Until now, all aerobars have been designed similar to the first model created by 3T for Francesco Moser’s 1984 Hour Record attempt – with the basebar behind the grips. 3T says the benefits are threefold:

Placing the grips behind the bar make it impossible for the rider’s hands to slide off the front of the bar.

The more positive handhold ensures better bike handling in deep descents, sketchy turns and while sprinting

The sharper angle of attack of the basebar wing allows for freer air flow than standard basebars.

“This is a very simple idea, and it’s amazing that it’s taken over 30 years to get to it,” said 3T President Rene Wiertz. “Putting the basebar in front of the grips eliminates at a stroke the time-trialist’s nightmare scenario, losing control of the bike because your hands slip off when you hit a pothole.

“Sure, if you’re an expert rider against the clock, you know how far you can push the envelope. But for a great many strong and capable riders who’d like to go aero in search of better times, staying in control of the bike in all conditions is an issue.

“Our Revo bar solves that. It’s safety is a powerful psychological reassurance, and it’s comfortable to ride over long distance. We  believe it will encourage a whole new class of riders to enjoy the benefits of a fully aero setup. The simplest ideas are often the best!” Wiertz concluded.

While an all new design, the Revo builds on 3T’s deep experience in carbon fiber bar design – a heritage that includes wins in World Tour races and the Olympics. The Revo has been tested and is currently being used by the BMC Racing Team – the reigning World Team Time Trial champions.

The Revo’s 40cm wide wing section houses all cabling internally and is compliant with UCI 3:1 rules. The extension bars are completely configurable so riders can get to their perfect position. Fabrication is to the highest standards, with a carbon fiber layup that confers steering precision married to resilience.

Models include the Revo Team Stealth ($675), the Revo Team ($650) and the high modulus carbon fiber Revo Ltd ($900)
