Marian University, Mars Hill win omniums at Collegiate BMX Nationals

Marian University won the division 1 team omnium for the fourth consecutive year and Mars Hill University won the division 2 award for the second year at the 2016 USA Cycling Collegiate BMX Nationals which were held in conjunction with the USA BMX Bluegrass Nationals in Louisville on Saturday and Sunday.

The individual titles went to Tyler Whitfield (Marian University) and Sabrina Bice (Lindsey Wilson College) when they posted the best overall performances after two days of racing.

On Saturday, Bice beat out second-place finisher Heather Collman (Lindsey Wilson College) for the top spot. Then in Sunday’s main event, Bice again was first to cross the line after taking the lead right from the gun and holding off a hard-charging Kristen Bob (Marian University).

Whitfield started his winning weekend off when he bested his Knights teammate Alec Bob and Corey Ross (Lindsey Wilson College) on Saturday. On day two, he beat Ross and Luke Roarty (Marian University) to the line after taking the lead right out of the gate and putting an impressive distance between himself and his components.

This weekend was the first collegiate BMX National Championship held in an indoor venue as racing took place at Louisville’s Freedom Hall.
