Stan’s NoTubes Race Sealant, New R&D Division, and New Logo

In the past 15 years, Stan’s NoTubes has helped create and push the tubeless revolution. To celebrate that history, they are launching a new Race Sealant, R&D division, and a new logo.

Stan Koziatek, Founder and Owner of Stan’s NoTubes, is not new to developing product. He’s the man behind the original sealant, and he has been continuing to develop and test new versions of the product. Teams around the world have been seen using prototype product coming out of recognizable Stan’s black bottles with silver Sharpie writing all over them.

Now, with Stan’s Racing Development (SRD) in place, there is an official division of the company challenged with advancing current products and creating new ones. The aim will be at creating high-performance, race level products that will be tested at the highest levels, and then trickled down into products for anyone from the pros down to the weekend rider that loves to get out on the trail. If you want to go fast (and not get flats), the SRD products are what you will want.

The new sealant, the first product developed by SRD, is a high performance sealant designed for the most demanding rides and tested by top racers around the world. This new sealant is said to help seal larger punctures quicker than traditional liquid based sealants. It’s taken more than 14 years, but it is now available for everyone to use.

The Race Sealant uses the same premium low-viscosity latex blend we all love from Stan’s, but adds more and larger sealing crystals. This means the Race Sealant still works down to -30 degrees Fahrenheir (-34.4 degrees Celsius) and is still made with natural materials, ensureing it is non-toxic, non-hazardous, and safe for the environment.

So these crystals. Stan’s added almost twice the amount of standard crystals over the original Stan’s sealant, and the newly added “XL” crystals work to seal the larger punctures. This new formula means Race Sealant’s crystals are designed to be one of the fastest sealants on the market and also provide a strong seal.

“Stan’s Race Sealant allows us to use less sealant and get the same performance,”said current U.S. Cross Country and Short Track Mountain Bike National Champion Chloe Woodruff of the Stan’s NoTubes-Pivot Team. “Race Sealant gives us an edge over the competition because it’s lighter and highly effective.”

One thing to keep in mind. With the additional crystals and the XL crystals, you’ll need to add it directly into the tire. Injectors and small bottles will get clogged quickly, so don’t use it on tubed clinchers or tubular set ups.

Celebrating 15 Years of Innovation

Technically, it’s 17 years on since Koziatek began tinkering with how to get tubes out of his wheels. In 1998, that’s when it all began, but it took three years of work with testing on the World Cup circuit before the first batch went on sale. Here’s the quick history for you.

  • 1998 – Koziatek begins experimenting with liquid sealant as a replacement for inner tubes.
  • First batches of sealant are tested by riders like Thomas Frischknecht on the World Cup circuit
  • 2001 – Koziatek begins selling sealant and conversion kits
  • 2002 – Koziatek begins developing a rim
  • 2003 – First alloy ZTR Rims are sold
  • 2004 – First BST rim is tested by riders; Marie-Hélène Prémont wins a silver medal using Stan’s NoTubes sealant and Sabine Spitz wins a bronze medal using both the sealant and prototype rim at Athens Olympics.
  • 2005 – Olympic rim with Bead Socket Technology (BST) becomes available.
  • 2007 – Flow and Arch alloy rims and wheels are released.
  • 2010 – First alloy road tubeless rims get released.
  • 2014 – Valor, Stan’s NoTubes first carbon fiber rim with Bead Socket Technology (BST), is released; Neo hub design is tested by riders.
  • 2015 – New Neo hub system is introduced; Bravo carbon fiber trail wheelset is launched; Avion carbon fiber road wheelset is released, marking the official introduction of BST-R rims designed to handle special requirements of road tubeless.
  • 2016 – Stan’s Racing Development program is unveiled; Stan’s NoTubes Race Sealant is introduced.
