SRAM extends 1x & Hydro technology to Apex line

  • Ron

SRAM does it again, introducing Apex 1 and taking the ground-breaking  technology of just a couple of years ago and making it available at very competitive price points. Earlier this week it was the new Level line of brakes for XC bikes and today it is the addition of 1x and Hydro tech down to the Apex line of road components.

Apex has long punched above its weight, bringing top end component performance down to a price point that the masses can afford. Drop bar or flat bar, dirt or pavement, Apex 1 is now ready to answer the call of the road with hydraulic disc brakes and the simplest, quietest, easiest to use, and most secure drivetrain option available—SRAM 1x™. Apex 1 achieves each of these superlatives while delivering artful design at an unrivaled value.

Additions to the Apex line include:

  • The Apex 1 rear derailleur, featuring clutch technology and compatible with both 1×10 and 1×11 drivetrains.
  • The S350 1x Crankset: Featuring SRAM’s  X-SYNC™ narrow/wide tooth profile, the S350-1 is available with 38, 40, 42, and 44 tooth sprockets and in lengths from 170 to 175mm. GXP and BB30 variants are also available.
  • An Apex 1 11-speed Flat Bar Shifter
  • The Apex 1 HRD Shift-Brake Control
  • A new PG-1130 cassette and accompanying PC-1110 chain

SRAM’s rollout of this tech to the Apex line marks a new era in the acceptance of 1x and hydraulic braking technology in the bike market. Where previously the adoption of disk brakes may have been limited to top end bikes, Apex 1 will allow quality, but lower priced bikes to introduce these innovations to a broader range of bike buyers.
