Silca announces tubeless valve kits

After focusing their efforts on tire inflation, Silca has turned their attention to tire air retention with new tubeless valve kits and tape for tubeless conversion.

Tubeless Valve Kit with Speed Shield

Developed after years of struggling with heavy brass valve stems or fragile uber-lightweight aluminum stems, Silca Tubeless Valve Stems were engineered to present a perfectly optimized solution. Extracted from the finest cold drawn aluminum bar (rather than hollow extrusion), the design yields a refined stem weighing less than half of the brass valve stems, yet remain 50-200% stronger in comparison to common lightweight aluminum valve stems. The Speed Shield prevents carbon rims from being scratched or damaged by the valve nut and are optimized with spherical interface to the stem nut to eliminate bending forces which can lead to poor sealing or worse, valve stem failures.

Replacement Presta Valve Cores

It’s the little things that make a big difference, the highest quality valve cores are a replacement piece for presta valve stems which use removable cores or an upgrade your existing valve cores in tubular, tubeless and high end clincher inner tubes. These valve have tight tolerances which allow an increase airflow when you’re pumping up and helps keep out contaminates when sealed. Probably the best 6 bucks you’ll spend all year.

40mm Threaded Valve Extender With Speedshield

Enjoy your ride with less drag and no rattle with the Fully Threaded Valve Extenders and SpeedShield, which work with Tubeless and Standard Removable Valve Core valve stems. The SpeedShield improves the aerodynamics up to 0.5 Watts at 30mph, which doesn’t seem like much, but is equal to a ceramic bearing upgrade. This extender is ideal for use on carbon rims for they are much lighter than brass valve extenders, eliminate annoying rattles over rough surfaces, and protect carbon rim surfaces by damage commonly caused by valve stem nuts.

Silca Platinum Tape is Optimized for Carbon and Rough surfaces.

With two years spent in the SILCA lab working on a stronger adhesive, the result is the finest ‘Platinum Grade’ substrate currently produced. Creating a rare combination of being stronger and able to stretch further than other tapes, the SILCA Platinum Tubeless Rim Tape easily conforms to even the most complex surfaces while the reduced thickness improves tire removal compared to thicker tapes.

SILCA Platinum tape is the only tubeless tape to use fully synthetic adhesive optimized for carbon fiber surfaces.  Drawing on more than 15 years of experience developing carbon rims at Zipp, Josh Poertner knew the challenges posed by carbon rim surfaces, and was able to work with composite industry suppliers to develop an adhesive that was better able to fill micro-crevices in the carbon surfaces. This slightly thicker adhesive turned out to also better fill imperfections in extruded aluminum surfaces while results in a tape that seals faster and more completely than previous designs.
