Thought you might not be fighting for gold this summer, it doesn’t mean that you can’t add some golden bling to your bike. Various companies make golden accent pieces, and now CeramicSpeed has added gold pulley wheels and Oversized Pulley Wheel System (OSPW). With the claimed reduction in resistance, every little bit of optimization on your bike helps get you closer to your next win.
Pulley wheels will be available in Shimano and SRAM for 9/10 and 11 speeds (road and mountain) and Campagnolo 11 speed only. The wheels are made from aluminum and are available in coated and uncoated bearing races. CeramicSpeed claims they will last 3-5 times longer than OEM pulley wheels. While already optimized to be some of the best pulley wheels on the market, the coated versions feature a two micron thick coating on the bearing races that makes them even more efficient and durable. Claimed weight is 26 grams. Coated and uncoated pulley wheels are also available in red and black in aluminum, or a natural gray for coated titanium wheels.
The Oversized Pulley Wheel System is available in Shimano 10/11 speed road, mechanical and Di2. The kit increases the pulley wheels from a standard 11-tooth to larger 17-tooth aluminum pulley wheels. This increase in size is said to optimize the chain routing through the derailleur pulleys, and save on average 2.4 watts (tested at Friction Facts). The cage that replaces the stock Shimano pulley wheel cage, is made from carbon fiber. Due to the larger size, if you travel with your bike in a bike case, you’ll probably need to remove your rear derailleur to fit in the case.
At 57 grams, you’ll probably also see a slight weight savings, and could gain a slight aero advantage at certain yaw angles and certain depth wheels. The OSPW System kits are also available in coated and uncoated bearing races, and additionally in red, black, and new gold colors.
Availability on both golden products is limited, although production quantities were not announced.
