With world-ranked women racers in Downhill and Cross Country already riding their bikes, Pivot Cycles turns their attention to winter, with the formation of a new women’s professional cyclocross squad. In partnership with high quality bike clothing manufacturer DNA Cycling, the new Pivot Cycles pb DNA Cycling Team consists of Courtenay McFadden and Sofia Gomez-Villafañe, both already well known in the sport and ready to tackle the 2017/18 season.
McFadden is one of the top women in US Cyclocross racing, with five years of UCI competition under her belt and three break out UCI wins last season. When asked about the new squad, she said, “I’m extremely excited to tackle the new season with Sofia as a part of the program! This will be my first year with a teammate in the races and that changes the dynamics of racing in a really positive way. I’m also looking forward to cheering for Sofia and contributing to the success of her first full UCI calendar, through sharing what I’ve learned over the past few years.”
For her own part, Gomez-Villafañe is just getting started on what looks to be a very bright future in the sport. “Last year was my first year as an Elite UCI CX racer, I had some great races and got to visit the podium a few times. For the upcoming season, I’m looking forward to building on that success and learning more about the tactical aspects of the sport through Courtenay’s experience.”
The Pivot Cycles pb DNA Cycling Team will race the Pivot Vault, a competition-ready cyclocross machine that eagerly doubles as an all-season gravel and racing bike. DNA Cycling is a supplier of top-level custom cycling gear – from thermal skinsuits to summer gear – they will furnish the team with everything the racers need to stay warm and look as fast as they are.
The 2017/2018 race season, and the first round of racing for Pivot Cycles pb DNA Cycling, kicks off this weekend at UCI World Cup of Cyclocross #1 in Iowa City, IA during the JingleCross Festival.
