As the road season has come to a close, the UCI has released their latest update to the Approved Frames and Wheels List.
On the Frame side, it is a very short list, just 1.5 updates. Yes, a half an update. We’ll start with that one. Specialized has updated the fork on their Shiv TT bike. What the update is, we are not quite sure. The Shiv TT itself is not listed on the sheet. I doubt it would be a disc for though, as the Big S is pretty consistent with naming their disc forks “<model> DISC.”
The other update is from Chinese brand, Winspace. Their T1500 is their first entry onto the list, though the models is not shown on their website. We were able to find some pics of it though, and it looks to fill the role of an aero road bike for the brand.
Revolver, a UK brand adds two wheels to the list, the Kronostok FWS8 and the Kronostok 9. The FWS line uses a Filament Winding System (FWS) T700 Toray Uni-directional full carbon fibre over the standard carbon used in the Kronostok line, which makes for a lighter and stiffer wheel.
Reynolds updates their Strike model with a slightly shallower depth (60.5mm vs 62mm). We’re not sure if there is anything else at this point, but we’ll keep you update as we hear more.
Taiwanese brand Rubar gets their first wheel added to the list, the Asura 50. Not much info available on it, but it looks to be a full carbon road wheel, 20 spokes out front, 24 in the rear.
Shimano sneaks in their disc update to the C35 in the new C40. At 24mm wide, 37mm tall, and a 12mm “E-Thru” axle and tubeless rim, it looks like it would be a great addition for those running Shimano on their cyclocross rig.
Finally, we have STEP Cycling, another Taiwanese brand making their first appearance on the Approved List. They decided to go big though and added 6 models to the list. Their site was down at the time of publication, so we don’t know a whole lot about their wheels, but they do have a pretty good selection of sizes to choose from.
