Designed from the ground up to be an off-road helmet, Bollé has recently launched their newest helmet, the Trackdown. Continuing alongside the French brand’s The One helmet, this new offering will be the third helmet in their line with The Messenger. We’ll have more on the updates to The One and The Messenger soon, but for now, here is the scoop on the Trackdown.
Released back in 2015, the The One helmet has been a workhorse for the brand. Road, aero, commuting and even off-road, it covered everything for Bollé pretty well. You can check out our review here. The new Trackdown focuses directly on the dirt market with some features we hope to see in Bollé’s other helmets in the future.
The first of those features is the AViD Liner System. Developed through their snow helmets, that AViD liner system uses a mix of high and low density foams to help manage high and low impact performance. With smartly designed ventilation channels in the foam, AViD helps make the helmet feel lighter on your head, while still providing a high level of ventilation and progressive protection. We don’t have weights yet, but when samples are available, we’ll include it in an upcoming review.
Additionally, the helmet is available in regular and MIPS versions. With the addition of MIPS to AViD (yeah, that’s a lot of letters), the MIPS liner helps reduce the rotational forces that come with angled impacts.
Similar to The One, the Trackdown uses the Click-To-Fit dial system to adjust the fit of the helmet. From our time using The One, it remains a solid system that holds keeps the helmet stable on your head and remain comfortable. Inside, the regular pads can be swapped for a winter liner when the temperatures start to dip. There are also caps that can be placed to cover the ventilation ports on the top of the helmet to customize the ventilation and keep the rain out. Between the caps and the liner, the Trackdown truly is an all-seasons helmet.
On the outside, the Trackdown has an adjustable/removable visor and the Sunglass Garage, also borrowed from The One. The Sunglass Garage lets you dock your glasses in your helmet for climbs or any other times you want to take your glasses off.
Available in black, white, purple and blue for MIPS, and black, green, white and the French Tricolor of blue/white/red, you are sure to find a color that matches, or completely clashes with your bike and kit, depending on what you are going for. Three sizes run from 51-54cm, 54-58cm, and 58-62cm, so just about all head sizes are covered. At $139 for the regular version, $169 for the MIPS, it makes for an affordable helmet for your next off-road adventure. Keep an eye out for them to hit stores early Spring 2018.
