Former Selle Royal Purchasing Director Massimo Farronato has started Repente, a new saddle brand based in Italy’s Veneto region, of one of the most important industrial districts in the world for the bicycle and cycling components sector.
“’Cycling is an Art’ summarizes our mission,” explained Farronato. “That is to create innovative Italian products highly appealing to the public, introduce new technologies focused on comfort and performance, propose valuable design solutions, and painstakingly caring for every detail, from the choice of materials all the way to packaging.”
The core of the system is Repente RC-Base carbon seat unit. The base utilizes the Repente Locking System (RLS) that allows the use of their ALEENA, COMPTUS and KUMA replaceable covers. The saddle/cover combinations are extraordinarily light, weighing 130, 135 and 145 grams respectively.
The main advantages are:
- You can change the shape of your seat based on your type of activity and specific anatomical characteristics;
- You can replace a cover due to wear or for any other reason without having to buy a full priced seat;
- Your position on the seat will be unchanged, as the carbon structure can be kept secured to the bike;
- Replaceability = Environmental sustainability: less money to spend, less materials to replace, a helping hand to environmental sustainability.
Repente is offering a 4-year warranty on the RC-Base structure.
38.2% More Comfort
In comparative tests conducted with modern analysis tools on some of the major saddle brands, the Repente saddle exceeded the company’s brightest expectations. For the mid-range COMPTUS cover, pressure is reduced as much as 38.2% over competitors.
The rear surface of the seat includes two small anatomical recesses ensuring a “close fit” effect, homogeneous pressure distribution; and minimization of unwanted movements on the seat.
The width and the shaping of the seats have been designed to fit the various measures and anatomical conformations of the medium normotype. The side profile is tapered so as not to interfere with the free movement of the thigh, which in the “wide type” saddles may cause forward movement from the right position.
In particular, the ALEENA model features an anatomic fissure which relieves pressure on the perineal / prostatic area.
Other benefits include the side edge on the RC-Base which protects the seat cover from accidental friction and fall marks.
Recommended prices for the base/cover combos are 328€ for the ALEENA and 318€ for the COMPTUS and KUMA models.
Repente products have passed stringent laboratory tests and are already in use by high-level athletes (Simona Frapporti, Marìa Josè Maroto, Revo Racing Team, Ivan Degasperi, Gianmarco Agostini among the others).
New models of saddles are being engineered to be introduced later in 2018, so as to meet the needs of a wider range of athletes.
