Alé Cipollini and Bardiani-CSF teams have been wearing one purple glove from Alé to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8th). This past weekend, while Alé Cipollini was racing at Strade Bianchi, Trofeo Oro, and Bardiani-CSF raced International Rhodes GP, but teams flashed the purple glove in support and hoped to inspire and empower women within cycling.
Marta Bastianelli made a big impact as she crossed the line to take the win in Montignoso on Sunday’s Trofeo Oro. Able to post up to celebrate the win, the Alé Cipollini rider pointed to the purple glove as she took the victory. The day before, Jannke Ensing was the top placed finisher at Strade Bianchi in 6th for the team, with Bastianelli finishing just outside of a top 10 in 11th.
For Alé, International Women’s Day is of importance. With a majority of their workforce comprised of women, along with their CEO, they are a unique brand within the cycling industry.
“We are living in a time of change with the rights of women in every situation being addressed and bravely challenged,” said Alessia Piccolo, CEO of Alé and President of the Alé Cipollini team. “Our ultra-violet glove is simply a symbol of support for those women and their journey to equality, and we hope it shines a light on the pride and motivation that the cycling community has towards their cause.”
Bardini-CSF didn’t have quite the success Alé Cipollini, but they did land Marco Maronese on the podium with a second place finish at International Rhodes GP. Paolo Simion also finished in the top ten in seventh place.
“We’re happy to share the initiative of our sponsor Alé and its message,” explained Roberto Reverberi, Team Manager of Bardiani-CSF. “Giving support to this awareness campaign for International Women’s Day is a duty. Wearing the ultra-violet glove is just a little gesture, but everything should be done to spread this message as wide as possible, especially in these hard times.”
Alé Cipollini will continue to celebrate International Women’s Day and show their support by wearing the purple glove in this Sunday’s Ronde van Drenthe in the Netherlands.
The special edition gloves are available on Alé Cycling’s website for sale on March 8th. Each set will come with one purple glove, and one black glove, the same as the teams have worn. Summer gloves are available in XS-XXL for €30.90, while the winter version is €36.90.
