2018 Giro d’Italia: Stage 1 Results

The Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb), winner of the previous edition of the race and TT UCI World Champion, won stage 1 of the 101st Giro d’Italia, the 9.7km Jerusalem Individual Time Trial. Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing Team) and Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Soudal) finished second and third, respectively.

Thanks to his victory, Dumoulin is the new race General Classification leader, wearing the first Maglia Rosa.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the new race leader Dumoulin said: “This is all I wished – the win and quite a lot of time on the other GC riders. I knew I was ready for the Giro but I wasn’t sure I’d win today. The course was hard but absolutely perfect for me.”
