While not the longest stage of the 2018 Tour de France, Stage 16 with 218km of racing between Carcassonne & Bagnères-de-Luchon, could give some non-G.C. focused climbers a chance to make some fireworks.
With five categorized climbs overall, and the three most significant climbs coming in the last 70km, the opportunity exists for a climber to get away early in the stage and make a move on the climbs. The stage will likely go to a strong climber that is also a fearless descender. The descent from the Col du Portillion will be a fast one, hitting nearly a double digit gradient all the way to the finish in Bagnères-de-Luchon before a flat final kilometer.
