Watteam made a splash with their POWERBEAT power meters back in 2015 when they introduced their first power meter at a price under $500. Since then, they have moved to their third generation of the product, offering an innovative approach to measuring power.
Today though, they announced they are suspending production and will no longer take future orders as they work to find a new partner to continue business. As mentioned in the statement below, it seems the latest G3 version was struggling with quality issues.
Watteam is looking at an acquisition as a way to fund the future of their product line, the Smart Crank. In a departure from their current line up, the new Smart Crank is sleeker, with the pods behind the crank arm. They also claim to have combined a “variety of industry solutions that will bring an end to many problems faced by the manufacturer and the end client.”
In the mean time, their server based software will continue to be available for current Watteam customers, and warranty work will continued to be offered. If we hear any further announcements, we’ll be sure to post them.
