Combat Wipes worth a place in your pack

  • Ron

Keep a pack of Combat Wipes on you, and you’ll have a strong, effective and earth-friendly option to get clean.

It’s happened to all of us. You’re out for a ride, it was a little muddy and you’ve got somewhere to go right after. Or you’re hiking and nature calls. Maybe you drop a chain and get chain lube all over your hands.

Baby wipes have generally been the ‘go-to’ for these types of tasks, but everyone knows by now that they are definitely NOT bio-degradeable.

Combat Wipes, a new product developed by a group ex-military elite soldiers who love the outdoors, are earth-friendly and 100% biodegradable, free of alcohol and contain aloe, Vitamin E and an antibacterial formula to protect your skin.

In my testing I found that Combat Wipes were not only better for the environment, they were just better at cleaning. The Active wipes are 18x12cm – a good bit bigger than a baby wipe – and their waffle-textured pattern just seem to work better at grabbing dirt and getting me clean. More than once I was able to refresh the wipe with a little water from my hydration pack and keep using a Combat Wipe when I would have been reaching for a second baby wipe.

Ultimately, you should pack out your wipes, but if you have to do cleaning of an – ahem – personal nature, you should bury the wipe in the ground. It will completely decompose within 3 months.

In addition to the Active model that I tested, Combat Wipes also come in a Commando version (no, not that commando) that is black for better camouflage; Gaia, which is pH balanced for women’s skin; and Dry Out, a large body-sized (160X80cm), thick and textured dry cloth that can be used to dry off after a natural shower in a waterfall, lake or river, or after using an outdoor shower.
