Earlier we brought you news about Topeaks new tools and pumps for 2020, including a wide range of items focused at the tubeless world. In part 2, we are focusing on bags, racks and fenders.
Bags and Travel Cases
PakGo XS – Topeak adds a smaller travel case with their PakGo XS. The Makrolon polycarbonate shell holds 700c and 26″ bikes with wheelbases up to 39.8″. For 27.5″ or 29″ bikes, you’ll need to go with the standard PakGo. Fully loaded, the case weighs 25.35lbs before you add your bike to it. Inside, a removable mini stand holds your bike in place, but can also be removed to use for reassembly and adjustments at your destination. The stand is compatible with standard quick releases and 12mm thru axles front and rear. Additional pads, straps, two wheel covers and a drivetrain cover help keep things clean and protected during your travels. On the outside, the PakGo XS features four large 60mm caster wheels to provide the rolling ease of luggage. It has built in carry handles and a TSA lock to keep your bike secure.
PakGo GearPack – This is something I’m excited about. Yes, I am a nerd. When I travel, I like to have my gear nice and organized, so I can’t wait to get one of these in for review. The 40L bag measures 16.1″ x 12.2″ x 11.8″, and has 5 main compartments to carry everything. Helmet, shoes, cloths, water bottles, nutrition, post ride cloths, sunglasses, tool kit, wallet, keys, it all fits. There is even a bag that can be used for wet shoes or cloths after your ride, and doubles as a changing mat. The GearPack has a hard shell to keep everything protected. We’ll have one of these on the way after the show, and look forward to reviewing it.
Packs
For all you gravel grinders and bike packers, Topeak is expanding their range of packs, and even have a fetching new green color in some options.
FrontLoader – The Front loader is your bag for thinks like sleeping bags, camping gear, or spare cloths. Items go into the double roll-top 8L waterproof bag with an air release button to help make them as compact as possible. From there, slip it into the tough outer harness and use the two clips to lock it in place. The Frontloader mounts to your bike with a strap around the head tube and two around your handlebars with adjustable rubber spacers to provide shock absorption and secure mounting. Color options are black or a green outer support harness.
TopLoader – The TopLoader isn’t exactly new, but it comes in the new green color. The 0.75L top tube pack mounts with two straps around your top tube and one around the steerer tube. The full zip top provides access and there is a hidden rain cover to protect it in the wet.
MidLoader – Same story with the MidLoader. These 3, 4.5 and 6L frame packs add the green color. Each size attaches with straps around the top tube, seat tube, and downtube. Pick your size depending on the space available in your frame and how much you need to carry. Full-length zippers provide access from either side of the bag. It’s made from a lightweight, highly water resistant and durable nylon, and have a storm flap over both zippers to keep water and dust out.
BackLoader – For big days on the bike, the Topeak BackLoader is your saddle pack of choice. Other than the green color, not much new here. The 6, 10, and 15L packs securely mount to your saddle and seat post to help prevent swaying with heavier loads. The double roll-top design features an internal waterproof dry bag with air release button and an outer water resistant durable pack. Compression straps keep everything compact and a bungee cord webbing allows additional storage. There is also a mount at the back for a rear blinky light.
FreeLoader – For a little extra storage up front, the FreeLoader straps to your handlebars and stem and offers a 1L pouch for an extra water bottle, phone, or camera and a side mesh pocket for some small nutrition items like gels. There is a drain hole at the bottom in case of a spill or leak with your bottle.
BarLoader – Need a more storage up front? The BarLoader can me mounted alone to your handlebars, or in addition to the FrontLoader. The 6.5L dry bag uses sonically welded seams, a roll top, and weather-tight zippers. It uses quick release buckles to attach to your bars, or can be attached to the FrontLoader. For off the bike, the 12″x10″x3″ bag has a detachable shoulder strap to carry it around.
FastFuel TriBox and DryBag X – Topeak has two other toptube packs that are focused more at triathletes and other road riders. Both provide a more aerodynamic shape and a structured shape to help prevent leg rub. The TriBox is a polymer container with a full length slit to provide access to 6-8 gels or other small items during your ride. It attaches with two hook and loop straps or it can be mounted using your frame’s integrated bosses. The front of the box is contoured to fit nicely around your stem and allow for behind the stem cable routing to fit neatly in front. They DryBag X has a hard shelled, weatherproof design with a full length zipper and attaches with two hook and loop straps, with options for the front strap to work with various cable routing options. It’s big enough to hold an iPhone Xs Max, so you should be able to fit plenty of gels, tools, and other items in it.
Burrito Pack – Who doesn’t love a burrito? Unfortunately, you can’t eat this one, but it will carry tubes, a CO2 inflator, CO2 cartridges, and tire levers. A fold over strap uses water repellent material to keep things dry and clean, and then rolls up like a burrito. It uses two compression straps to keep everything compact and one large hook and loop strap to mount it under your saddle or on a frame tube.
Racks
Even if your bike isn’t made for front or rear racks, doesn’t mean you can;t use one. The new TetraRacks have you covered.
TetraRack M1/M2 and R1/R2 – Topeak created a unique solution for those looking for a rack for their mountain or road bike that doesn’t have eyelets for racks. The TetraRack uses two hook and loop straps on each side to attach to your fork or rear seat stays. Once attached, the rack itself is adjustable along the struts that attach to the frame/fork to keep your load leveled and balanced. Each rack uses Topeak’s Integrated QuickTrack system to allow TrunkBags to slide in and lock into place. The front and rear bars allow for mounting of reflectors or lights to help keep you visible. Maximum capacities are 22lb for the M1 (mountain front), 26lb for the M2 (mountain rear), 15lb for the R1 (road front) and 20lb for the R2 (road rear).
Bottle Cage, Storage Tubes, and a Rear Light
To round things out, we have a few other odds and ends to mention that seem pretty cool.
Ninja Cage SKX – In Part 1, we mentioned the Ninja ToolBox Tubi12. It’s part of Topeak’s Ninja line that has some hidden features. The Ninja Cage SKX is a side loader water bottle cage that can hold various Ninja tool boxes underneath using the QuickClick mounting system. The left and right specific cages made from polymer, securely hold your bottles in over rough terrain. An optional insert at the bottom swaps the QuickClick for a PET bottle mount where you can carry a store bought water bottle.
Escape Pod S/M/L – When you don’t need a bottle, but you still need to carry some things, the Escape Pod has you covered. These polymer canisters come in three sizes to carry tools, a mini pump, or anything else that can fit in it. Inside, they have a foam lining to keep things quiet. The small, for example, can fit two tire levers, a CO2 canister, an inflator, a road tube, and a mini multitool.
TailLux 100 USB – Finally, Topeak has a new blinky rear light. The TailLux 100 USB is a nine LED light that comes with either an all red lens, or a red/amber lens. The light provides 100 lumens of bright light in a spot and flood pattern. It has four modes, and can last between 2 and 30 hours, depending on the mode. It’s USB chargeable and attaches using two EPDM bands.
So that wraps up our coverage from Topeak. We have some reviews on the way, so keep an eye out for them coming soon. We have more coverage from Eurobike coming as well.
