UAE Team Emirates starts their 2020 season at the Tour Down Under on January 21, hoping to build on solid results from the 2019 edition of the race. Jasper Philipsen had a stage win last year and Diego Ulissi finished in the top-10 on GC.
Prior to the race, the team will compete in the Schwalbe Classic Criterium (51km) which takes place on the evening of the 19th January.
Sports Director Allan Peiper (Aus) is someone who knows the Tour Down Under well and will lead the following riders:
- Jasper Philipsen (Bel)
- Diego Ulissi (Ita)
- Mikkel Bjerg (Den)
- Aleksandr Riabushenko (Bel)
- Marco Marcato (Ita)
- Sven Erik Bystrøm (Nor)
- Vegard Stake Laengen (Nor)
“UAE Team Emirates is really looking forward to the start of the season at the Tour Down Under in Australia,” said Allen Peiper. “We come with multiple objectives having Diego Ulissi for the hilly stage finishes and GC and stage winner from last year Jasper Philipsen for the sprint stages. We have a great support team with Bjerg, Bystrøm, Laengen, Marcato and Riabushenko”.
“I’m looking forward to starting the season early in Australia,” added Jasper Philipsen. “We started really well there last year with a win, so we will be hoping to build on that this year. It’s always nice to get the season going well and off on the right foot”.
