… and will own. Stay posted for a build project.
The All-City Electric Queen popped up on my radar a couple of years ago when it was featured on John Watson’s Radavist site. It was the paint job that caught my eye, but the classic hardtail lines didn’t hurt either. It really reminded me of the look of my early nineties Kona Kilauea, a (now) classic Tange Prestige-tubed steel hardtail with 26″ wheels.
I didn’t really think much about the EQ until late in 2019 when a friend started shopping for (another) shreddable steel hardtail (he has a problem. I do, too). We bounced around some ideas from Chromag, RSD, Soma Fabrications and others but a nearly new EQ at a good price on eBay is what finally made him pull the trigger.
I’m always looking for a winter project to keep my fingers busy and when an as-new 2018 EQ came up for an even better price, I had to pull the trigger.
The 2018 does not have quite as radical of a paint job as the 2017 and 2019 models (just a basic bright blue spatter at the front end), but it will allow for a little more creativity in component choice.
The EQ will end up replacing my very-XC focused Focus Raven, a bike that is really not well suited for the type of trail riding that I do nowadays. I’ll be running 27.5+ wheels with 3.0 tires, while my friend is doing 29″ wheels.
Can’t wait to point this one down the trail!
Want one of your own? Completes sell for a very reasonable $2399 and frame sets can be had for $999.
