As the nation continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, the latest event to cancel for 2020 is Crusher in the Tusher. Originally scheduled for July 11th, Crusher will have to wait for 2021 to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The gravel event starting in Beaver, UT and heading through the Tushars mountain range, ending at Eagle Point, was acquired by Life Time at the end of 2019. The brand has been building a large portfolio of events like the Leadville Series, Dirty Kanza, Chicago and NYC Triathlons, and many running events across the country. Along with their resort-style fitness centers in 41 markets across the country, they are expanding their Life Time Work coworking spaces and Life Time Living high-end leased residences.
“In looking at balancing the safety of our riders, volunteers and the community in concert with guidelines, directives and what’s known and unknown, it became painfully clear that providing an experience that is up to snuff with our standards and yours just wasn’t going to happen in 2020,” said Burke “T-bird” Swindlehurst, Founder and Event Director of Crusher in the Tushar.
It was a tough decision for organizers to make, but after working with officials at various levels, they decided it was the right thing to do to ensure the safety of all involved.
“While we are heartbroken to not be able to host Crusher in partnership with Burke this year for it’s 10th anniversary, the health and safety of our athletes, staff, volunteers and the community are more important,” says Kimo Seymour, President, Life Time Events and Media. “We know our riders have trained for months ahead of the event, and don’t make this decision lightly, but are excited to give everyone the event they deserve in 2021.”
If you are registered for the event, you have four options, defer, refund, or two donation options.
- Deferral – If you defer to 2021, you can do so at no charge.
- Refund – Your entry fee can be refunded, but mins the processing fees.
- Donate to the Life Time Foundation – Your 2020 registration fee will be donated through the foundation to the Beaver and Piute County COVID-19 relief school meals program. Your spot will be deferred to either 2021 or 2022.
- Donate to National Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA) – Your 2020 registration fee will be donated to NICA and your spot will be deferred to 2021 or 2022.
For either donation option, you will be granted entry into the year of your choice, but you’ll need to pay the registration fee again to participate. Participants have until Monday, June 22 to make your selection. Use the following link: https://runsignup.com/Race/UT/Beaver/CrusherintheTushar
