SRAM updates Eagle line to 52t cassette with 520% range

  • Ron

SRAM has updated the Eagle line of drivetrain components to use a 10-52t 12 speed cassette, providing riders with a 520% gear range.

The new cassette and accompanying derailleur will be available for the value-priced GX, trail-oriented X01 and XX focused XX1 drivetrains as well as their AXS wireless drivetrains.

In addition to changes to accommodate the wider gear range, the derailleurs also get an entirely new cage architecture along with updated finishes. The redesigned derailleurs will be backward compatible with existing 10-50t drivetrains.

With the expanded range, SRAM is marketing the change as allowing stronger riders to add more teeth in the chainring for more top end speed while still having plenty of low end gearing for hills.

New Colorways

SRAM has also expanded the colorways for the line, with an all new Lunar finish across all three ranges and a Lunar Oxy (Red) and Luna Polar (black) specifically for the XO1 line.

Cassettes and chains are now available in five finishes: Copper, Rainbow, Gold, Black and Silver.

AXS Updates

The AXS Wireless shift components also receive updates.

The X01 and XX1 AXS derailleurs get a slightly shorter cage with more chain wrap and a slightly more inboard position to better protect the system. The controller gets more customization, now allowing the user to choose which position moves the derailleur inboard or outboard.

New GX Eagle Crankset

The GX line also gets a new carbon crankset with a proprietary carbon layup. At $275, it is competitively priced and is compatible with all 1x drivetrains.
