2020 Tour de France: Stage 9 Results

  • Ron

Marc Hirschi of Team Sunweb nearly survived a long solo breakaway to win Stage 9 of the 2020 Tour de France on a day that also saw the maillot jaune move to the shoulders of Primoz Roglic.

Hirschi soloed more than 90km before being caught by a chasing group of Egan Bernal (Arkea Samsic), Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) and Mikel Landa just a few kilometers before the finish. Hirschi wisely sat in with the group before attacking with about 400m to go. The stage came down to a sprint with Pogacar coming out on top and Roglic in second.

The yellow jersey group with Adam Yates finished nearly a minute back, moving Roglic, who started the day in second place, into the race lead with Egan Bernal in second.

With the first of two rest days tomorrow, the general classification fight looks to be set for the next several days of the race.
