In the fight against friction, CeramicSpeed has released their new UFO Drip Coating. The new formulation claims to reduce friction even further, last longer, and is lighter on your wallet.
CeramicSpeed has always been on a mission to reduce drivetrain friction. From when the power leaves your legs, there are multiple ways that your bike can drain some of that force before it gets to the rear wheel. Bearings in the pedals, bottom bracket, hubs, and jockey wheels, along with the chain can all sap some of that energy, not allowing you to get the full effort to the road. Along with their bearings and OSPW system, the UFO chains and UFO Drip Coating help to make your drivetrain as efficient as possible.
The newly formulated UFO Drip Chain Coating uses a unique blend of waxes, trace oils, and friction modifiers to protect your chain while also helping to reduce friction. The easy-to-apply liquid comes in its own dropper bottle and dries as a wax coating. This will allow you to reapply as needed with the chain on the bike. It’s also temperature stable between 45F-95F, allowing you to apply the drip all throughout the year.
The new formulation should last you about 300km per application. Whether you are riding on beautiful dry summer roads, fall gravel, or bombing down trails, the UFO Drip Chain Coating provides protection from dirt, grit, and water, while still providing the friction-reducing performance that CeramicSpeed is known for. In their testing, CeramicSpeed found that the new formula outperforms the original formulation by 15%, providing a further reduction in friction over multi-hour stress tests.
Additionally, the new formulation is non-toxic, non-flammable, and bio-degradable, which makes it easy and safe to handle, along with being safe for the environment.
For first time application, give the chain a very thorough cleaning to strip down to a clean, bare chain. Give the bottle a solid shake and drip it onto each roller at the cassette as you rotate the chain backward. Hit each roller one the chain, do it again, and then let it dry for 8 hours for optimal performance. For a follow-up application on a clean chain, wipe the chain with a clean, dry rag, and then reapply as you did initially, but not as much of the UFO Drip Coating is needed this time. If your chain is really dirty, give it a solid cleaning and start over following the initial application process. Compared to lubes like Molten Speed Wax or absoluteBLACK’s GRAPHENlube, initial application is a little easier with not needing to remove the chain.
Each bottle offers around 35 coatings or so to keep you running smoothly. Say you get 250km per application, that means you can expect around 5,500 miles per bottle. At $45, it is about 40% cheaper than the previous version.
We have a UFO optimized chain using the original formulation in for review, along with other items that we’ll give you a preview and full review on in the near future. We hope to get some of the new formulation UFO Drip Chian Coating to test against the original and other lubes we have in as well. We’ll keep you posted.
For now though, the new formulation is ready and available on CeramicSpeed’s website or through your local dealer.
