The multiple ultracycling world record holder will be setting off Friday, October 22nd, attempting the 24-hour open road world record! This event is also regarded as the ultimate record in the ultracycling world. Pushing the human body for 24 hours straight focused on riding as many miles as possible.
“I’m extremely excited about next Friday’s 24 hour world record!” said Coker. “This has been a record I’ve been wanting to go for since I was introduced to ultracycling. It’s all about proper pacing, fueling, and keeping my mindset in a positive position. With the backing from Team Twenty24, my sponsors, and my amazing crew I am looking forward to putting my best effort forth and making the most of every pedal stroke. The current women’s record for 24 hours open road is 439 miles, with that said I don’t have a specific number in mind but will of course use this as my target to beat. Surprisingly I am not nervous. Since The Florida500 this past February I’ve been excited for the opportunity to make a 24 hour record attempt!”
While in pursuit of the 24 hour record, Coker will also be attempting the 100K, 100 mile, 200K, 200 mile, 300K, 300 mile, 500K, 500 mile, 6 hour, and 12 hour records. All records will be under the officiation of WUCA (World Ultra Cycling Association) who will provide the verification for Guinness.
Coker will be executing her record in Florida on a WUCA verified out and back course, covering roughly 28 miles each “loop”. During the 24 hours, Amanda’s amazing crew will make sure all the wheels (pun intended) are rolling smoothly and efficiently. Since this is an open road record, she will have a follow vehicle for the entire 24 hours, to ensure her safety and keep her well supplied with fuel and care.
She’ll be racing on a Felt IA with Zipp Speed Weaponry, SRAM components, Speedplay pedals, Wahoo Elemnt, Quarq power meter, Limar Air Speed Helmet, LeCol Jersey, Sock Guy Socks, DZ Nuts chamois cream, and AMP PR Lotion.
The Twenty24 team will have a live tracker link available for all to follow Amanda once her attempt begins Friday morning. Follow us on social media @teamtwenty24 as well as on Amanda’s Instagram @amanda__coker, and her Facebook Athlete Page facebook.com/goamandacoker for updates throughout the day.
