All of the latest from the 2021 Chris King Open House

  • Ron

The 2021 Chris King Open House kicked off today. As it was last year, the event is once again virtual, but they’ve gone far to give everyone, not just a key group of journalists, a view of all the goods on display.

Watch the video for a tease of everything. From signtature bikes from Bixxis, Legor Cicli, Victoire, Baum, and Prova Cycles, to other drops from Moots, Dynaplug, Specialized, Brooks Saddles, Simworks USA, Santa Cruz, and SRAM.

Dynaplug Racer Pro

Dynaplug has very quietly made the ultimate tire plugging device even better. Anodized in signature Chris King Turquoise and finished with the Angry Bee logo, the Dynaplug Racer Pro features dual insertion tubes, 4 plugs at your fingertips instead of two. Featuring the Twin Tube™ technology debuted on their Covert Handlebar-stashed tire plug tool kit, the Racer Pro has two pre-loaded plug tubes per side, meaning four plugs ready-to-go in an instant.

Machined in Chico, CA from US-made billet aluminum and stainless steel, the Racer Pro weighs 26g, only 2g more than the prior generation, yet delivers twice the puncture-defeating power!

The Racer Pro comes with snug snap-on caps protecting both sides which pop off to expose the end of the patented Dynaplug tire plug, either the classic size with wheel-friendly soft brass tip or the aluminum Megaplug for extra-mega-big punctures. Riders can flip the Twin Tube around by unthreading it, configuring the tool for their own plug needs.

Brooks England

Next up are special editions of the Brooks Cambium saddles, built with anodized turquoise rivets.

New Carbon Fiber Wheelset

Some of the bigger news at the open house is that Chris King has gone into wheel manufacturing.

King’s new wheels, the GRD23 all-road and the MTN30 mountain wheels, sit in a sweet spot among today’s high-end carbon fiber wheels. They are simultaneously more compliant (read: less harsh) while also tracking better and remaining more stable at high speeds. It’s all down to the marriage of their legendary hubs with FusionFiberTM technology built into the rims, which employ a revolutionary nylon fiber bonding process, rather than the epoxies used in most carbon fiber wheels. The result is pleasantly plush, but also far less toxic to manufacture and relatively clean and easy to recycle, making it a winning choice for riders and the Earth.

GRD23

The GRD23 is a 700c wheelset that is intended to replace all of your road or gravel wheels. Comfortable on the road and extra-comfortable off it. They love all your tires. They love all the places you want to point your bike.

MTN30

Available in both 27.5 and 29 sizes, the MTN30 wades into the intense challenge of building a lightweight carbon wheelset for the most demanding off-road riding. Traditional carbon fiber is light and fast, but sometimes too stiff for the harsh realities of trail riding. The MTN30’s rims don’t get their structure from epoxy-based resins, so they’re light and fast, but a little more forgiving than what you might have ridden before.

Moots

Keeping with the turquoise theme, Moots just announced the Trans Am anodizing package available for their entire line. Inspired by 1980s car graphics, the theme is carried across the frame, onto the stem, and seatpost.

Moots Trans Am finish

With a retro-themed, vibrant color palette anodized onto a matte surface to give it pop and vibrancy, the Trans Am is by far the flashiest anodizing finish Moots has offered to date… See more photos of the Trans Am finish at Moots
