Cincinnati again ranks in the Top 5 best cities for beer drinkers in America, according to recent data compiled by SmartAssset.com. Cincinnati has been in Smart Asset’s Top 5 for several years now, even as the number of craft breweries in the country nearly doubled between 2015 and 2020, reaching a total of 8,764 as of last year.
The rankings were made using data regarding the total number of breweries, breweries per 100,000 residents, the average number of beers per brewery, bars per 100,000 residents, and the average price of a pint of domestic draft beer (I would assume that includes your American Light Lagers – Ed.). Cincinnati ranked 11th overall for the total number of breweries (31) (though I’m certain that that number has increased by now, Ed.) and 22nd for breweries per 100,000 residents (10.2). Our breweries also were said to feature an average of 128.4 beers per brewery (this has to be wildly skewed by craft beer monster Samuel Adams – Ed.), the 17th-most across the study. However, the average price of a pint in the greater Cincinnati area rose from $4 to $5, tying us for 204th-cheapest on the list.
The rankings were topped by Pittsburgh, PA; Bend, OR; and Milwaukee, WI.
Overall, Ohio made a strong showing in the Top 50, with Akron at #14, Columbus at #17, Dayton at #40, and Cleveland at #47.
