After a 950km drive, the 2022 Tour de France makes a transfer to Dunkirk for Stage 4 of the race. While the riders were blessed with a two-hour charter flight, the staff and team vehicles drove out of Denmark, south through Germany, through Belgium to northern France.
While the riders got an early rest day, the staff were faced with a 9 to 12 hour drive and the logistics of packing and unpacking their entire operations.
Once the riders are back on their bikes, they get to face a comparitively flat 171.5km race to Calais. Comparitively flat as the stage includes 6 Category 4 climbs along the route. While the finish itself is flat, the peloton will have to face the 900m Cote du Cap Blanc-Nez just a little over 10km from the finish. The climb averages 7.5 percent and we’ll probably see Magnus du Cort attacking for more mountain points, but with a fast, straight run-in, whoever crests the climb first will probably not stay away to the finish.
