New Nitrogen-Infused AtmosFoam from Velo Saddles

The world’s leading saddle manufacturer, Velo Saddles, has something new in the works that will be coming to a saddle near you soon. Their new nitrogen-infused Velo AtmosFoam (VAF) is said to not only enhance performance and durability but also minimize environmental impact during the production process. Light, supportive, comfortable, and good for the environment? Sign me up.

Nitrogen infusion isn’t new. Shoe manufacturers have been using it over the last 10 years to create foam that is lighter, more supportive, but also more comfortable and durable. Velo is using similar technology to use nitrogen in the foam production process, to bring these same benefits to their saddles. Instead of using chemical additives, they use Nitrogen, the one of most abundant elements in our atmosphere. It also reduces carbon dioxide emissions for a more eco-friendly production process.

“We are excited to be the first to introduce this type of foam to the cycling industry. Velo is continuously looking for innovative ways to increase cyclists’ performance and comfort while researching eco-friendly manufacturing methods,” said Ann Chen, Vice President of Velo Saddles.

From a performance perspective, VAF is also lighter and more responsive compared to other foam compounds with finer pore structures. The nitrogen-infused foam has evenly distributed microcells, providing uniform rebound and shock-absorbing throughout the entire saddle. VAF also has a lower thermal conductivity, which will help keep your bum and bits cooler in hotter conditions.

The new material will be available on Velo’s own saddles, and will surely be featured on saddles they make for some of top bands in the segment. No word yet on which saddles will feature the new Velo AtmosFoam, but Velo already features some pretty lightweight saddles with the 128g Angel Glide and the 138g Angel TT, both with carbon rails.
