Recently, Velo Saddles announced their new AtmosFoam, a nitrogen-infused foam that is lighter, more uniform, and has a reduced carbon footprint over typical foam padding. They have now launched their first saddle featuring the new padding, the Angel Revo. We’ve already put a few rides in the new saddle and some initial feedback a bit further below.
The new AtmosFoam uses a nitrogen-infused foam that enhances performance and durability, while minimizing the production process’s environmental impact. It’s lighter and provides more support, due to the smaller microcells that are more responsive with a consistent rebound and shock-absorbing. It also has a lower thermal conductivity, keeping your connection with the saddle cooler on hotter days.
The rest of the saddle is built off of the popular Senso TT and Angel TT, my personal favorite. It uses the Y-Cutout shell to provide pressure relief for sensitive areas. The Revo actually extends the length of that cut out a little bit further than the Senso TT and Angel TT, providing additional comfort on longer riders. The Atmos Shaping Technology blends the saddle cover and the base without a visible seam, making it 100% waterproof. The saddle is 248mm long and 148mm wide, and uses titanium rails.
Being a world leader in saddle manufacuring, Velo understands the impact that manufacturing has on the environment. The nitrogen in the AtmosFoam eliminates the need for chemical additives. It also uses their new EuphoraBase shell, which is made from a non-petroleum-based hybrid bioplastic. It uses plant-based materials and glass fiber. The material for the Omni saddle cover uses recycled knitted fabric instead of microfiber substrates.
The Angel Revo is available in three colors to start, the Monogram Black, Cali, and an Artist Design called Fern. This limited edition comes from Santa Barabara-based designer Molly Lofton. Velo collaborated with Lofton to create an eco-style design to reflect the innovations the saddle represents. Loften mentions her inspiration came from her love of riding around town.
“Being in Southern California, I encountered several palms on that ride. The pinnate leaf of the palm tree is beautiful and intricate, which felt like the right design aesthetic for this saddle— paired with the textural graphic of the terrazzo pattern— not dissimilar to the look of composite recycled materials— the piece is reflective of nature and how we repurpose goods.”
To add a little something extra, Velo includes their WaveOn technology in the Angel Revo. To get additional customer support, just tap your smartphone on the saddle to use the contactless NFC technology.
The Angel Revo is currently available for preorder on Velo’s website, with shipping expected to be by the end of October 2022.
I had a chance to get a sample before the launch, and have to say, I’m impressed. The Angel series has been my go-to saddle for the past five years, but more recently, the Angel/Prevail TT has been my saddle of choice. Comparing the Revo to the Angel TT, it looks a bit more padded, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. The first few minutes of my ride put that worry to bed. The Revo’s padding was just right. A little more padded than the TT, but not too overly padded for fast race pace efforts. I haven’t had a chance to go longer than about two hours on it yet, but I could see the Revo being a great 4+ hour road ride saddle and great for gravel. The AtmosFoam cushions well, but is still supportive that you don’t feel like you are sitting on a sofa.
I’ll be putting in plenty of time in on the Angel Revo on the road and eventually transferring it over to my Stages SB20 for indoor use (and eventually to the gravel bike), so look for a full review coming in the future.
