Velo Saddles
With launching the new Angel Revo saddle last year with its eco-friendly features, Velo is starting to roll these same features out to other saddles in the line, while also adding a few new features.
To start off, the Angel Series of saddles, which includes the TT and variations of the original Angel, will start to see the same EurphoraBase bioplastic shell and Omni Cover from the Revo being incorporated into their production. The EuphoraBase is a non-petroleum-based hybrid bioplastic made from plant-based materials and glass fiber. The Omni Cover utilizes recycled knitted fabric instead of synthetic microfiber substrates. These rolling changes will start to be available this summer.
The Angel TT, one of my personal favorite saddles, will also be available with a recycled foam. The foam uses a hybrid recycled EVA foam with coffee grounds. While you aren’t going to get an extra boost of caffeine to your bum on your ride, the use of coffee grounds is becoming more widespread in creating plastics, water filters, or even a fuel source. The new foam aims to keep the same feel and support of the current foam while reducing the environmental impact of its production, and also recycling biomass going to landfills.
Finally, there is also a new Angel Revo saddle coming as well. The new saddle focuses more on comfort and shock absorption. The new eTPU (engineered Thermoplastic Polyurethane) pellets are visible on the saddle, giving it a unique look. It will also include the EuphoraBase bioplastic shell and Omni Cover. Measurements will be 248mm long and 148mm wide. Availability is due later this summer.
Xpedo
Xpedo had a full line of pedals on hand for the show, but the newest edition is the Sonik road pedal and Felix flat pedal. Adding to the Thrust line of Keo-style pedals, the Sonik adds an SPD-SL-style pedal. Just like the Thrust, it uses a carbon-injected mold body with three sealed bearings. The Sonik comes with both fixed and 6-degree float cleats and is available with a Chromoly (233g) or Titanium (188g) spindle. Pricing runs $189 and $269 respectively.
The Felix adds a second nylon pedal to the line, but with metal pins over the Juvee’s plastic molded pins. The new pedal will be available in black, pink, red, and tri-color rasta at $49.99. Weighing in at 340g, the Felix will be available later this year, Summer of 2023.
Orucase
Orucase, a brand known for making travel cases, frame packs, and travel bags, released something a little different. Instead of your typical travel case you’d use for a flight, Orucase introduced their new Cardboard Box. Yes, I know it doesn’t sound exciting, but it is pretty cool, and is something good for the environment. The telescoping design allows the box to expand out for a larger bike (62″), or become more compact to save on shipping (48″). Each box is designed to last about five round trips with minimal to no taping required. Orucase is working one the final details and pricing, but availability should be later this summer.
They also had their new Janus Duffel on hand. The original was part of their in-house Design Labs where the brand creates new products to prove a concept before launching them into full production. The new version adds convertible backpack straps and a much lower price. Originally priced at $250, the new full-production Janus Duffel will be made using their overseas production for other products they offer, and should bring the pricing down pretty significantly. More details to come on pricing, but availability is expected later this summer. Look for a smaller, 30L version as well.
