2023 Giro d’Italia: Stage 15 Results

  • Ron

American Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) has won Stage 15 of the 2023 Giro d’Italia, the 195km long Seregno-Bergamo. Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) and Marco Frigo (Israel – PremierTech) finished second and third respectively.

Bruno Armirail (Groupama – FDJ) retains the Maglia Rosa.

24 year McNulty old entered the main break of the day which built a maximum gap of seven minutes over the peloton. As the breakaway was whittled down, McNulty played his cards well to find himself alone out-front with Ben Healy (EF Education) and Marco Frigo (Israel Premier Tech) for company.

McNulty was able to respond to all the attacks thrown at him by Healy and timed his sprint to perfection on the downhill road to Bergamo to take the 27th win of the season for UAE Team Emirates.

Speaking seconds after the finish, the stage winner Brandon McNulty said: “It’s an indescribable feeling. It was my big goal coming here to take a stage. On the last climb I went on the attack but Ben Healy countered it hard and I thought my race was done. I managed to fight back and in the end it came down to the last kick and the sprint and I just went for it. We came here for GC and the goal of me going for a stage win so now it’s in the bag we can fully focus on the GC.”

The Maglia Rosa Bruno Armirail said: “It’s been difficult to retain the Maglia Rosa. It was a hard stage with a lot of climbing and there was Einer Rubio at the front. He was likely to take the jersey so my team-mates had to pace all along. Yesterday I didn’t realise what it was to take the Maglia Rosa but today with the incredible support of the crowd I’ve found out what it’s like. It’s huge and I’m delighted to stay in the lead on the rest day.”
