Eurobike 2023 is finally here! As brands big and small from all over the world converge on Messe Frankfurt, Germany, It’s our first chance to see new products for 2024 and even some new things we’ll see at the Tour de France in the next few weeks.
DMT
Shoemaker DMT has a new shoe on the way to celebrate major wins in Tadej Pogačar’s career. Named for the rider himself, the Pogačar (a special edition KRSL) features a 3D-engineered knit upper, which has variable thickness and knit patterns to provide support where needed, while still being comfortable and breathable. DMT pioneered and was the first to patent this technology that has now spread throughout the cycling industry. The lace-up closure helps keep the shoe light while still making them infinitely adjustable. Underneath, a full carbon sole combines pro-level stiffness with ventilation. The new Pogačar Edition is completely white, even the sole, and adds special graphics that mimic the heartbeat. Orange laces add a pop of color.
DMT also added a NFC chip into the sole of the shoe which adds some interesting features to the show. We’ve seen this type of technology in various POC helmets, which allowed riders to include emergency info so if something would happen, first responders can access your information through their devices if you are unable to respond. For DMT, the NFC chip works the same way.
MCIPOLLINI
For bikes, MCIPOLLINI has a few e-bikes they are highlighting at Eurobike, along with a new, extremely limited edition of the Dolomia.
Last month, the Italian brand released the Fybra, their second e-bike in the road segment, but their first gravel e-bike. Both the R and GX versions use a monocoque carbon frame with TCM Technology. Essentially, the frame is laid up in a way that continuous strands of carbon run the length of the frame, balancing stiffness and comfort. Power is added by a Polini EP3+ EVO motor and 500wh battery, offering power assistance with a range of up to 220 kilometers.
For the GX, the rest of the build includes SRAM Rival AXS, HiRide AR 1.5 suspension fork, and a RockShox Reverb AX wireless dropper post. With clearance for 50mm tires, integrated front and rear lights, and plenty of mounting points for panniers, bags, and bottles, the Fybra GX is ready for your next gravel adventure.
On the conventional side, MCIPOLLINI has a new, extremely limited edition Dolomia. With only 13 bikes made, the Velum version is the pinnacle of climbing bikes for the brand. Along with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 drivetrain and rim brakes, the Velum Edition is built up with a THM Clavicula SE and Carbon-Ti chainrings, Lightweight Meilenstein wheels, Selle San Marco Superleggra saddle, and Deda Elementi Alanera one-piece carbon bar and stem. The claimed weight of 5.76kg makes for a light, but functional and elegant bike on the road.
CushCore
CushCore launched their new E-MTB inserts to cover the heavier weight and greater forces seen on E-MTB’s. The new inserts keep many of the same great features you’ve come to expect from CushCore inserts and added additional support to handle the higher forces from an E-MTB.
“The E-MTB also incorporates the same new fluted sidewall design found on our recently released TRAIL insert, “explains Austin Sanford, CushCore Engineer. “This provides progressive sidewall support: the harder you push, the more support you feel.”
“E-MTBs are heavier and generate more forces than a traditional mountain bike, therefore we designed an insert with these parameters in mind,” adds Adam Krefting, CushCore Founder/Inventor. “CushCore E-MTB provides maximum impact absorption, rim protection, vibration damping, and durability. You’ll ride more laps, with more control, but with less fatigue, and less worries.”
The new inserts continue to include flow channels to help air and sealant stay distributed throughout the tire and an air valve notch to keep it flat on the rim. If you have never run inserts, not only do they help to absorb impacts and save your rim, but they also help to dampen vibration (road or trail “chatter”) and provide additional support to the tire in corners and on technical climbs.
The set runs $160 or you can buy singles for $80, and they are available in 27.5″ (281g) and 29″ (299g) sizes and they fit tires between 2.3-2.8″ and inner rim widths of 22mm-35mm. Availability is scheduled for August 2023.
