2024 Tirreno – Adriatico: Stage 1 Results

  • Ron

2022 and 2023 Tirreno – Adriatico winner Filippo Ganna crossed the finish line one second slower than Juan Ayuso to take the second step on the podium. The young gun of UAE Team Emirates, next in line after Tadej Pogacar, made the difference in the second half of the race and took his third time trial victory in the WorldTour after the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse last year. This time, his performance makes him the biggest rival of pre-race hot favourite Jonas Vingegaard who finished 22 seconds down.

Third of the ITT, Jonathan Milan, winner of the points classification at the Giro d’Italia last year, showed a great form ahead of the first stage suitable for sprinters at Follonica on Tuesday.

2024 Tirreno Adriatico

Speaking in the press conference, the stage winner and Maglia Azzurra Juan Ayuso said: “It’s great to win the time trial. I suffered till the last moment watching the other riders coming. It’s a double victory: the stage and the time gap I got. It’s quite a lot even though with one minute I wouldn’t secure against Jonas Vingegaard. Tirreno-Adriatico is a very importance race in the development of my career. From this race, I’ll be able to see my level compared to Vingegaard and the other best riders in the world, to know where I am, what to work on and to keep on improving. What Tadej [Pogacar] did at Strade Bianche was something unseen for me so I came to Tirreno-Adriatico with a big motivation. It’s my first big goal of the season. To start like this is great!”
