Stage 2 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia starts out flat through the Canavese and the district of Vercelli, then after passing through Valdengo becomes an endless succession of climbs and descents, linked without pause for breath. After cresting Crocemosso and Oasi Zegna, the route takes a more manageable ascent to Nelva, followed by a highspeed descent into Biella. Here begins the closing climb to Oropa, along the ‘traditional’ route which has featured repeatedly in the Giro d’Italia. In the first part, the roads are straight, level and moderately wide, with common traffic obstacles to be found in urban areas.
Final Kilometers
The last 11 km climb all the way from Biella to the Santuario di Oropa. The gradient is low in the first part, up to Favaro. The climb hits the steepest gradient (around 13%) across the centre of Favaro (on porphyry), and then continues with several bends and a gradient around 9%, up to the 130 m long home stretch, on 6.5 m wide, porphyry paved road.
