While we’ve been hyper focused on the Giro d’Italia, there have been a number of new products that have made their way across the virtual desk here at BWN HQ. Today’s drops: TPU tubes go mainstream, ultralight jerseys, Giro-themed shoes and more.
TPU Tubes go Mainstream
Brands such as Tubolito and Silca have been selling TPU tubes for some time, but new offerings from Continental and Kenda are sure to bring them out of the niche to a larger audience.
Continental announced ContiTPU, a premium, lightweight yet durable product suitable for both road and off-road riders.
Continental deployed the highest grade of micrometer-thick TPU across seven sealed layers to maximize airtightness and durability. Uncolored to further ensure the highest material quality and prevent air retention issues caused by dye-related surface imperfections, every ContiTPU tube is quality-checked post-production.
Similarly, Kenda has released a new line of tubes called Airolution. We’ve received less info about these, but they seem to be offered in similar sizes to those offered by Continental. One marked difference, however is the Cargo variant that comes in sizes down to 20″. These do seem to be thicker than the Conti offerings as well.
Giro-tribute Nimbl Exceed Ultimate
Exceed pays tribute to the first of the three Grand Tours with a themed version of their best-selling model, the Exceed ULTIMATE, dedicated to the magnificent Stelvio summit. A subtle and stylish touch to recall the best of the Made in Italy.
The Exceed ULTIMATE is a shoe born within the Pro Peloton. With input from Olympic Champions and high ranked World Tour teams, the Exceed ULTIMATE is raced by over 100 World Tour riders that recognise to it the incredible power transfer, comfort and fit as best in class.
Ultralight jersey from Gobik
With high temperatures just around the corner, Gobik offers cyclists a unique garment, perfect for feeling free and comfortable on the bike during the summer season. Phantom is the ideal harmony between a garment and the cyclist, elastic and comfortable, with a semi-open mesh structure that guarantees constant air flow, thus drying the moisture generated during the activity and minimizing the feeling of the wet garment, also offering a high sun protection factor of 50+ UPF.
Phantom brings together the key points of Gobik’s various flagships and takes them a step further. It is lighter and more breathable than the Carrera jersey and more elastic than the CX Pro jersey, in short, the most complete and evolved jersey the company has ever created.
3T launches Strada Italia
Continuing the development of in-house production, 3T adds a new model to its made-in-Italy portfolio: the Strada Italia, a road bike for all roads, which aims to maximize the rider’s performance with a perfect balance between comfort and aerodynamics. The Strada Italia sports a design optimized around tires with a 30-35mm WAM (Width As Measured), a fitting studied to enable strong riders to maximize their performance, and aerodynamic tube shapes designed to optimize the speed in real-world conditions.
