Sven Abrahamsen of the Uno-X team came into Stage 8 of the 2024 Tour de France and seemingly decided to do all that he could to cement his position in the polka-dot jersey. riding solo off the front for more than 160km to claim all the KOM points on a stage with many on tap. Caught with less than 15km to go, the peloton set up for an uphill sprint contest and it was ultimately Biniam Girmay besting Jasper Philipsen and Arnaud de Lie at the line.
With all respect to his strength and perseverance, Abrahamsen was aided by rainy and windy conditions that favored a solo rider.
While Girmay became the first rider in the 2024 race to win two stages, the GC contenders finished together to maintain the status quo.
