Eurobike Updates From FSA and Vision – Pro Wing AGX Bars, Metron 5D Evo, SC45 and SC60 Wheelsets

While not new for the show, FSA and Vision showed off some newer items that recently were added to their product lines or saw updates. These include the new FSA Pro Wing AGX gravel bars, range topping Vision Metron 5D Evo integrated bars/stem, and the more affordable Vision SC45 and SC60 wheelsets. A package already arrived to our East Coast office with a build kit that includes the new Pro Wing AGX, a road build kit, and some wheels on the way, so watch for some reviews coming in the future.

FSA Pro Wing AGX

The new Pro Wing AGX is a dedicated gravel and adventure handlebar, and you’ll know it as soon as you see it. With 10mm of rise on the tops, and 25 degrees flare on the drops, they offer an extra 50mm of width in the drops for leverage when you need it. The 100mm of drop and 70mm of reach help to provide an ergonomic position on the hoods or in the drops. Even though the Pro Wing AGX has the most flare for any of FSA’s bars, it’s the front loop that immediately grabs your attention. At 170mm long and 150mm wide at the base and 80mm wide at the end. This offers some additional riding positions, reducing fatigue and offering an aero option. It also provides some additional options for mounting bags on the handlebars. The tops are also flattened, to provide better grip when climbing in the saddle, and comfort on the arms when using the loop for an aero position.

The aluminum Pro Wing AGX is available in 42, 44, and 46cm (center to center) options with the 42cm weighing 380g. Pricing runs 142.90 USD / 145.00 GBP / 179.00 EURO.

We have a 42cm sample in with FSA’s VAS (Vibration Absorbing System) Stem that features a replaceable insert in the bar clamp that helps reduce vibrations at the bars. Three different inserts offer a comfort (47% reduction), Sport (40% reduction) or Race (33% reduction) feel. We’ll be pairing this front end set up with an SL-K 0-setback post for an upcoming review.

Vision Metron 5D Evo

On the road side, Vision was highlighting their new top of the range Metron 5D Evo integrated bar and stem. The original 5D debuted back in 2017, so it was time for an update. The new Evo is an update to a widely used bar on the World Tour circuit. The 5D Evo still includes the 10 degree forward angle to help open your chest to improve breathing, a 5 degree flare low on the drops to improve stability, and the integrated cable routing and narrow stem introduced with the ACR version in 2019.

The 5D Evo brings the weight down to 320g, while increasing stiffness and improving vibration absorption. Compared to the previous 5D, the Evo the stack height has been reduced by ~1.5cm, allowing for a more aerodynamic position. Vision also revisited the ergonomics, adding a new dimension to sizing. Most bar/stem combos are available in various stem length and bar with combinations, but now Vision is adding two sizes for the tops, a standard L and new XL, allowing riders with larger hands more room to wrap around the tops. Both sizes have an 80mm reach and 125mm drop

The Evo is available in 14 sizes. For size Large includes 90mm with 38 and 40cm width bars, 100mm with 38, 40, and 42cm bars, 110mm with 40 and 42cm bars, and 120 with 40cm bars. XL includes 110mm with 44cm bars, 120 and 130mm with 42 and 44cm bars, and a 140mm with 42cm bars. All sizes are priced at 698.00 USD

FSA has also created new top caps that help the 5D Evo integrate seamlessly into more popular frames with fully integrated cable routing. All are 3D printed using a “special composite with an internal super strong structure.” Average weight is 12g, and are available for brands like Cervelo, Cannondale, Specialized, Giant, Pinarello, Trek, BMC, Factor, Scott, Colnago, and Orbea.

SC45 and SC60

Last, but not least, the SC45 and SC60 wheel sets from Vision. These are updates of the SC40 and SC55, following similar updates in the past few years for the Metron line. The SC series sits below the Metron as a little more of a budget friendly option. The latest update to the 45 and 60mm depth rims brings the same rim technology over to the SC line, just with a different hub.

As mentioned, the rims are 45 and 60mm deep, and both are 21mm wide internally with hooked sidewalls that are tubeless ready. The external width is where the shape varies a little, with the SC45 hitting 31.1mm wide, and the SC60 measuring 33mm wide. The updated rims help to shift the side load on the wheel further behind the hub, and lower, creating more of a rudder effect, and providing more stability in cross winds. In fact, the Vision claims the SC45 has about 8% less drag (depending on yaw angle and tire) and 21% more stability with a 28mm tire versus the SC40 with the 25mm tire it was designed for. The SC60 is about 4% reduction in drag and 15% more stability under the same testing.

The main difference comes with the hub. Instead of the new PRS hub found on the Metron with the 72T Helical clutch ratchet, Vision sticks with the traditional pawl type hub. They did redesign the caps from the previous preload version to press in caps. The goal was to create a bulletproof hub, that was made to be used and abused with minimal maintenance. This means engagement will be a little slower than the top of the range Metron, but the SC is significantly cheaper. Discs mount using the Centerlock standard, with adapters available for 6-bolt rotors. Free hubs available are Shimano/Sram and XDR. The rest of the build uses direct pull bladed aero spokes in a 2:1 cross pattern to help distribute forces applied to the wheel.

The SC45 has a claimed weight of 1,590g, while the SC60 is slightly higher at 1,690g. Pricing runs 1,249USD/1,249 EUR/1,099.99 GBP for the SC45, 1,349 USD/1,345 EUR/ 1,199.99 GBP for the SC60, which is $912 and $856 less than their respective Metron models.
