Black Diamond releases new gear for FW 2024/25

  • Ron

Black Diamond is more than a climbing company and their recent product releases show their expansion into being more of a full-fledged outdoor brand. On tap for fall and winter are some new releases we definitely want to check out.

Access Down Shell

Access Down Insulation is a brand-new insulation from BD and will be emphasized in the Access Down Hoody. Featuring 800-fill goose down, the Access provides reliable warmth shielded with a PFC free DWR for added weather resistance. A brimmed hood provides extra protection from the elements, while two zippered hand pockets and an internal chest pocket give you ample room to stash life’s essentials. Stretch knit cuffs add layering and glove compatibility, making the Access Down Hoody an all-around fall-through-spring down layer.

This collection also features the Access Down Jacket and Access Down Vest. Check out the whole collection here.

Fineline Stretch Shell

Looking ahead to the cooler and wetter days of fall, Black Diamond has introduced the Fineline Stretch Shell. Alpine storms or urban downpours, the Fineline Stretch Rain Shell can handle it all. Featuring the BD.dry™ waterproof/breathable/windproof solution, which is engineered to shield you from whatever the weather holds With DWR sealed pit zip vents, two zippered hand pockets and a waterproof center front zipper, the Fineline comes prepared for the wettest conditions but quickly adapts for moderate weather.

The Fineline’s underarm gussets and ultra-stretchy fabric add mobility and durability, while the climbing-helmet-compatible hood makes it perfect for on-route escapades when inclement weather rolls in. The Fineline also has an adjustable hem and cuffs for dialing in the fit, and when the sun comes out, the shell stows into the right-hand pocket and clips to a harness or bag with a carabiner clip loop.

Features:

  • Stretch fabric increases comfort
  • DWR armpit zips for ventilation
  • Underarm gussets for added mobility
  • Adjustable, climbing-helmet-compatible hood
  • YKK Aquaguard center front zipper
  • Packs into right-hand pocket with carabiner clip loop
  • Adjustable cuffs and hem

Impulse Ti Skis

As winter hits, show up to the mountain with Black Diamond’s newest member of its ski collection: the New Impluse Ti Skis.

A new and improved version of our award-winning Impulse ski, the Impulse Ti features an added sheet of Titanal, making them more stable, smoother, and damper while ripping through fresh snow. Built primarily for off-piste terrain, the Impulse Ti shines when the snow gets deep.

BD Ambassador Mike Hattrup worked on the development of the Impulse Ti during his time as the Snow Business Unit Director at BD. He explains the direction they took with the design.

“As a brand, we focus on soft snow. We’d much rather be off in the trees, in the chutes, and the bowls, than we would skiing groomers,” he says.

That’s why the Impulse Ti features a long gradual tip, and more taper than a traditional groomer ski.

“If you’re like us and spend most of your time off-piste, you should check out the Impulse Ti,” says Hattrup.

To be sure, the Impulse Ti can do it all. Laps at the resort. Fitness skins. You name it. But when that 30-inch day hits, you’ve got the perfect weapon.

Hydra Ice Tool

While BD is expanding their line, climbing is still at the core of what they do and the new Hydra Ice Tool shows their dedication to the sport.

Three years ago, the BD team was tasked with the following brief: Create the end-all, be-all, badass ice climbing machine. Fast forward a few years and they are excited to announce the Hydra Ice Tool (MSRP $309.95).

A revolution in versatility, the Hydra Ice Tool can be configured to maximize performance on any technical winter terrain. From water ice in the Alps, new lines in the Alaska Range, or technical mixed climbing, the Hydra tool accepts a full suite of I.C.E. accessories—including picks, hammers, adze, head-weights, spikes, and grip spacers—allowing you to customize your tool to match any mission.
